And, in case my traffic page really ain't lying (which I highly doubt) and in case I in fact do have some readers from places outside Denmark, I'd like to introduce myself to you as well:

Hi, and welcome to the world according to Sofie! I'm Sofie. Surprise! I was born during the cold winter of '94. I'm from the incredibly small kingdom of Denmark, the place where the sun is something we rarely get to see and where sometimes, it's snowing until April. I like to travel (who doesn't?) and this blog is my little corner where I share moments from all the amazing places I'll hopefully visit. 

I moved to the UK in September 2014 and am currently studying an undergraduate degree at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.

I created this blog in early 2013, primarily because I wanted it to be easy for my family to be a part of my au pair-year in the United States, which is also the reason why my blog is in Danish. My grandpa doesn't know English and it's important for me that he's able to read it, so you'll have to settle with little summaries in English (I do my best to put the same effort into the English part!). And if that isn't enough, there's a very handy (yet awfully bad) translator at the bottom of the page, so feel free to use it.

So, let me tell you this little bit about myself.. I graduated High School in June 2013 after 3 amazing years and started my gap year with two and half weeks holiday in Japan with one of my friends, followed by 2,5 months of working as an au pair in Houston, Texas. The Texas-thing was supposed to last a whole year, but doing something I basically hated just wasn't worth it, so I went home to Denmark in October. After the 'defeat', I decided I had nothing to lose, so I started to apply to study an undergraduate degree in Scotland - although I didn't have the grades to get in. 
I had no intention to waste my gap year by staying in Denmark, so I bought a ticket to Argentina - and ended up travelling/working around South America for 6,5 months. It was amazing and I am so glad I had the courage to shorten my stay in the States and go follow one of my biggest dreams. I visited 5 countries but in total I ended up staying in Argentina for 17 weeks and 10 weeks combined in Colombia, Chile and Brazil (and a day trip to Uruguay!).

So how does this have anything to do with me living in the UK now? 
Well, before leaving for South America, I was actually trying to make my peace with the fact that I'd start school in Denmark when I got back eventually. But one day in February, when I'd just finished my shift at the hostel in Buenos Aires, I saw an email tick into my inbox. I'd been accepted into one of my dream universities, University of Aberdeen! So I guess my dream came true - but only after I had the courage to pursue it. 

I am studying an undergraduate degree called Politics and International Relations with some anthropology, Spanish and philosophy on the side. I'm studying at AU in Aberdeen - Aberdeen is the 3rd biggest city in Scotland, located in the northeastern part of Scotland. I spent my 3rd semester abroad, at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. I had such a good time and finally got to experience the American school spirit firsthand, something I've dreamed of for a long time.

When I'm not studying, there's a whole bunch of stuff I like to do. 
I work as a coach on a casual basis at our local sports centre, Aberdeen Sports Village. So far, I've coached trampoline, gymnastics, multi sports and athletics. I worked as an assistant swim coach back in Denmark when I was younger and I'm happy to have the chance to try it out in the UK as well. 
I volunteer with Terrence Higgins Trust and dates-n-mates Aberdeen.
I am a member of the IC A-team (International Centre Advisory Team) at my university. What we do is explained right here.
I am also running this Humans of New York-style Facebook page along with some friends.
When I occasionally find the time, I also love to read. I tend to read philosophy books or books on Latin American culture or history. After my trip to China, I started to feel intrigued by the Chinese nation and its history and am planning to start reading The Search for Modern China by Jonathan Spence very soon.
